Lakeland, Florida was shocked and outraged this week after 8 teens were arrested in connection with beating the shit out of one of their peers… and videotaping it.

The victim, a 16 year old girl, apparently left some disparaging myspace comments that pissed off some people bad enough that they invited her over with the intent to administer some tasty knuckle sammies with revenge sauce.

Internet words are even more hurtful because you can spell them in bold and italics, and that just adds to the offensiveness. You can also replace letters in a word with numbers, turning a harmless insult into something much worse. Picture this:

A guy walks up to you on the street and says, “Why are you wearing that shirt? You look like a homo.”

Some people may be offended by this. I myself would not be upset because usually I try to look like a homo on purpose. But take this same insult and add a little online twist and…

A guy leaves you a picture comment on myspace that says, “lol zomg, that shirt makes j00 look lyke a f4gg0t!”

It’s on now, bitch. I’m gonna go through your top 8 and find a mutual acquaintance that likes me more and have them invite you to a fake party at my house where I’ll have all my friends beat your ass and videotape it. Then we will all go to jail and feel like tough guys.

The girl was eventually beaten unconscious and then driven to another house where she was told more was in store for her if she called the cops. She suffered a concussion and bruises, which is nothing compared to what’s gonna happen to the next asshole that talks some e-shit about me.
