68-year old David Sperry was arrested on April 3rd, 2007 after he tried to molest two teenage boys on a Beach in Florida. Sperry, a former dentist from Ohio, succeeded in capturing one of the boys and sucking his penis — the other boy got away.

Sperry was arrested, but has been free on $50,000 bond ever since 2007. He was originally going to use the “I didn’t know what I was doing” defense, but when prosecutors presented DNA evidence linking his mouth to the boy’s penis, he pleaded no contest to lewd and lascivious battery — which carries a 15 year maximum sentence.

To Sperry’s defense, at the time of his offenses he was taking Mirapex and Requip because he suffers from Parkinson’s disease and dementia. Both of those medications activate dopamine receptors in the brain, which is known to cause impulse-control problems, addictions to gambling and spending money, and extreme sexual arousal.

At this point, Sperry is waiting to see if the judge will be merciful during his sentencing. He has no prior criminal history (that we know of), so that will also be considered.

There’s no question whether or not David Sperry sucked the penis of that 14-year-old boy, but did he really mean to? That’s the real question.

If Sperry’s medication really did create impulse-control issues, he shouldn’t be blamed for his crimes. But why did he have the impulse to suck that kid’s penis in the first place?

Oh right, he has dementia too. Maybe he thought he was in the kitchen flipping pancakes rather than holding a young boy down and blowing him.
