FLORIDA — Police in the Palm Bay area have arrested one of the men thought responsible for a rash of armed home robberies in recent weeks. 19-year-old Michael Mack is in police custody after he sought medical help for machete wounds to his head and hand that were inflicted by his latest victim.

Earlier this week, Mack and another male kicked in the front door of a random home intent on robbing it, but when the resident met them on the stairway with a machete, the tables quickly turned.

“I just started chopping at both of them all the way down the steps,” the resident told a 911 dispatcher moments after fending them off. “There’s blood everywhere… Oh my goodness.”

Both men fled, but the resident was able to take a photo of their getaway car with his phone. Unfortunately, there are thousands of black Chevrolet Cavaliers with bloodstained interiors driving around Florida. He also claimed that one of the men was armed with a gun, but he may have just added that to legally protect himself if the burglars sued him for the machete slashing.

After getting chopped up, Mack went to a medical center to get his wounds treated. He told the hospital staff that he was cut by a lawnmower blade — but all nearby hospitals had already been warned by police to watch out for him. They stitched his cuts, and then the police arrived and arrested him.

Too bad we couldn’t hear exactly how he described cutting his head with a lawnmower.

The other robbery suspect remains at large, blending in among a sea of black Cavaliers.
