No brakes, no problem

MICHIGAN — A 24-year-old man from Detroit was ticketed for driving a truck without working brakes and attempting to stop the vehicle like Fred Flintstone — with his feet. The man drove over two miles on a busy road and managed to stop the truck with his feet twice, but not the third time.

Fred Failstone just had to make it to the Roseville drive-thru to get some jumbo ribs.

When officers finally spotted the driver with his leg hanging out of the truck, he had gathered too much momentum to slow it by himself. The hilarity of the situation wore off quickly and was replaced by fear as he approached a red light. The truck smashed into two cars as it coasted through the intersection.

One vehicle was sent veering into a telephone pole after being struck. Luckily, there were no pedestrians crossing the street, especially considering this all happened during rush hour.

Two more cars were hit as the truck rolled though another intersection. Police were pursuing him at this point, recording him as he futilely pressed his shoe against the pavement. An emergency brake would have come in handy, but that obviously wasn’t working either.

Finally, an officer was able to shout some expert advice at the driver: “PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK!”

The truck came to a squealing halt as the driver shifted it into park. The transmission probably suffered irreparable damage from that maneuver, but at least no children became road kill that day.

Despite his extreme idiocy and disregard for the general safety of everyone else, the driver passed the drug and alcohol sobriety tests issued by the police, which means he’s that dumb normally.

His reason for driving with absolutely no brakes: He wanted to get home, so he could go to work. Aside from that fishy explanation, he also admitted that he knew the brakes didn’t work.

Since there were no serious injuries, he was only cited for reckless driving and ticketed for driving on a suspended license. The reason for his license suspension is unknown, but it was probably for something minor like driving on a busy sidewalk or speeding in reverse near a school.

Had this actually happened within the city limits of Detroit, nobody would’ve noticed or cared.
